Óbidos (pictured below), a truly wonderful medieval town and a castle, is 15-20 minutes away. This historic town is surrounded by the castle walls and has old buildings, cafes and shops inside. Once the wedding present of a queen, it is one of Portugal 's most classic walled settlements. Obidos Castle attracts visitors from all over the world and is on the map of coach tours. Drinking a traditional beverage ginja from a chocolate cup is not to be missed! There is a FREE car park.

Caldas da Rainha (below right) is a bustling market town 15 minutes away. It has shopping centres, restaurants and many lively cafes as well as daily markets.

Nazare (below left) is a lively popular resort, which still retains its traditional character. There are very good fish restaurants there as well as many shops and cafes. Local fishermen and their wives wearing a traditional dress can still be seen everywhere. Nazare beach is considered as one of the best beaches in Portugal.

Alcobaca, a large monastery town, is 25 minutes away. National Park Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, famous with its spectacular black mountains, is 30 minutes away.

Lisbon or Lisboa, the capital of Portugal , is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city with much of historical interest and a wide range of restaurants and cafes serving some of the finest fish in the world. It is only 45 minutes away on an excellent A8 motorway. There are tolls on the way but charges are very reasonable. Of course, you can avoid the tolls buy going on the older, non-motorway, roads. Fatima , a city famous for the religious visions, is 30 minutes away towards Leiria, a large city.
